Under Construction:

Our work at Buffalo General Medical Center continues with the renovation of the former Swift Auditorium, located next to the newly renovated main lobby.  The original space, constructed over 30 years ago, was dated and had limited flexibility to accommodate new ways of communicating and delivering educational content.


The project is being developed in two phases:  Phase 1 was recently completed and will be used for meetings for several months. The tiered theatre seating was removed and the floor was levelled for greater flexibility. New furniture, lighting, & finishes were installed. Phase 2 is in design and will see a larger space with a video wall for distance learning.  It will be capable of hosting diverse educational programs and special events for hospital staff and the public.

Sustainability Consulting:

Our work as sustainable design consultants began before LEED was created, and has always had a broad focus.  We have worked with manufacturers to better align their marketing materials with current thinking in sustainability.  We help companies to create updated documentation, and to be more responsive to changes in LEED and other green rating programs.  As specification consultants, we have helped to update the LEED-related  language in CSI-formatted specs. We also write white papers on green schools, smart homes, and other sustainability topics.


Continuing education in sustainability is very important.  We have created and delivered presentations on smart cities, green buildings, rating programs, and more, both to local audiences and at regional and international conferences.  Our partnership with a leading continuing education provider involved revising outdated LEED presentations and creating an on-demand webinar outlining the changes in LEED Version 4.

LEED Project Management:

We are consulting on six LEED projects, all educational projects ranging from athletic facilities to a vocational training center.  Clients include Buffalo Urban Development Corporation (BUDC), Virginia Tech, SUNY Albany, Buffalo State College, and SUNY Buffalo. 


BUDC is the lead agency overseeing development of the Northland Workforce Training Center, which is part of the larger Northland Redevelopment project.  It is pursuing LEED on both phases of its development.  The lead A/E firm is Watts Architecture & Engineering.


Virginia Tech is certifying two of its athletic facilities - the baseball stadium and field house.  SUNY Albany is renovating Building 27, one of the classroom buildings originally designed by Edward Durrell Stone.  Buffalo State College's Science Complex is in its third and final phase of construction:  the previous two phases were certified LEED Gold.  SUNY Buffalo will pursue LEED v4 Certification for a unique infill project that will become the Global Market Cafe, part of its Heart of the Campus project.  All of these projects are being led by Cannon Design. â€‹

Design:

We are working with R. Kyndall Development Group to create a mixed-use infill project on Buffalo's East Side.  Located a block north of the Northland Avenue Redevelopment Project, the Kyndall Building will bring new affordable rental housing to the neighborhood, building upon the transformative public investment in the Northland corridor.  Ground floor commercial space is being designed to accommodate start-ups in the food service industry.  The project's 14 apartments - a mix of 1- and 2-bedroom units - includes two accessible units that can accommodate physically disabled tenants.
